Lessons in Alone

I.

When living in a cold, damp tower
It is important to realize
All Women
Are equipped with
Emergency Beacons
And Keys

II.

A hard lesson.

Connecting stone
to stone,
after stone
to stone -
For the path
Alone

I thought my best was
In assisting others: No stone too heavy
Unless it was mine

But, isn’t this a woman’s story- More comfortable
Working on another’s task
Than her own ?

But, we women deal with stones
In spite of ourselves
Carrying them first, a long way
Gradually realizing we must lay them down
One after another
Painfully -
We find at last
Our true selves
Hidden deep within this struggle

This path I place with such effort
Before my feet
Is solid.
I’ve learned
No matter how slow
Or arduous the journey
The main thing
Is to keep laying the stones
